Team Efficiency Increase Project - Sales and Operations Planning (S&OP) - Demand

The company

Global manufacturer and supplier of life crafts, Marine Evacuation Systems (MES) and offshore rental Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). The company remain a leading supplier of fire solutions to the maritime industry and hold a market-leading position for Pilot Flight Equipment in the aerospace & defence market.

With over 3,000 employees worldwide, they operate in over 2,000 ports, spanning 96 countries, 11 manufacturing facilities, and over 400 service.

The business had higher inventory than required, hence occurring increased costs. Furthermore they did not always hold the right inventory to satisfy the customer requirements.

the challenge

Required to better synchronize their demand and supply activities and facilitate better collaboration across sales, marketing, production, procurement and finance.

Identify, educate and train a team to manage the demand forecast process.

Design a forecasting process with an implementation plan for business stakeholder engagement.


Worked closely with business leadership team to determine sales and operations team members, which included – Demand Planning Team, Supply Planning Team, Pre-S&OP Team, Executive S6OP Team, Executive Champion / Sponsor, S&OP Process  Owner

Competency assessments were carried out to ensure that the right individuals were identified and/or any capability gaps identified.

Conducted initial briefing, education day and training. It was agreed with the leadership and across the teams, that the demand forecast process should be prioritized as this was the feed into the rest of the process and poorly functioning. Training focused on the 11 Major features of demand forecasting.

the results/benefits

Developed a strong team that were evaluated on their knowledge and skills in the forecasting and contribution to the S&OP process.

Capability scores were compared  before and after the training  and confirmed understanding of the forecasting concepts, techniques and best practices.

Participants feedback and satisfaction all scored Very High/High for training content, delivery, relevance and overall satisfaction with the Kaleidoscope training approach

The team participants ability to apply the knowledge and skills acquired from the training in their work environment was also assessed, 30, 60 and 90 days after the training.

This assessment involved post training assessments and project assignments that required the participants to demonstrate their ability to develop more accurate forecast and make informed decisions.
